How can we help?
What it costs, what ages it’s for, safety, rain and refunds: the answers are all here.
Top questions
What does it cost?
Playing at home is free. A quest at the faire is $10–$25: Beginner $10, Advanced $15, or both Advanced quests for $25. Faire admission is sold separately by the faire.
What ages is it for?
Ages 6 and up. The Beginner Quest is made for families with younger kids; the Advanced Quest is for older kids, teens and grown-ups who love puzzles.
Is it safe for my kid?
No chat, no ads, no loot boxes. There’s no way for players to message each other. Players 13 and up can make their own account; for a younger child, a parent or guardian makes it.
How long does a quest take?
A Beginner Quest takes 30–45 min; an Advanced Quest takes 60–90 min. Take breaks and explore the faire in between.
What if it rains, or plans change?
Faires run rain or shine, and so do our quests. Didn’t finish? Your quest keeps — come back and finish it any day the faire is open. Questions about your order? Email info@xtreasurehunt.com.
Do we need an account?
Not to play at home. A free account keeps your progress, your heroes and your place on the leaderboard, and is needed to play for the faire’s daily prize.
At the faire
Where do we find you at the faire?
Look for the pirate flag and the gold X Treasure Hunt tent. Each faire’s page has its dates and hours.
Can we buy at the faire, or ahead?
Both: online ahead of time, or at our booth on the day.
Can we play as a group?
Yes. Groups usually solve together. It’s one map per quest bought: share one or get one each.
Do we need to know anything first?
No. Everything you need is on your treasure map.
Playing at home
Is there an app to download?
No. The free pirate game runs in your web browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no download and no sign-up.
What can we play for free?
The Hideout’s worlds: Sky Coins, the Cat’s Pier, the Hound’s Dig, Cannon Cove, the Sunken Grotto and more.
What are Legacy and heroes?
Legacy is your level points: every quest and game earns some, and your total never goes down. Heroes are the 24 characters you can play as; three are yours from the start and the rest join as you level up or finish quests.
Prizes
How does the faire’s daily prize work?
Every play day, the top score wins a prize. Each day’s prize is set in advance and paid for by X Treasure Hunt — it never depends on how many people play. Right now it’s a cipher wheel pendant. Finish an Advanced Quest for 100 points, then solve the Easter-egg puzzles it opens for 50 more each — the day’s top score wins. Tied? Fewest hints used wins, then the fastest solving time on the egg puzzles — never the time of day. Scores close at the end of the play day — anything finished later still earns Legacy, but not prize points. At the end of the faire’s run, the season prize goes to the best single-day score — playing more days or buying more quests can’t raise it. The players on one account may solve together; sharing answers with anyone else is against the rules. Beginner Quests are for the fun of it — they don’t score for the prize. Prizes are handed to an adult — under-18 winners collect with a parent or guardian. Read the official rules.
Is the prize a raffle or a lottery?
No. It is a contest of skill: the most points wins, and ties go to the fewest hints and then the fastest solving time. Chance is never used to pick a winner, and no points can be bought. The official rules.
Can we buy trophies or relics?
No. Every trophy, relic and keepsake is earned by playing. The only thing we sell is a quest.
