Official rules

The Top Score of the Day — a contest of skill at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire, Lebanon, Connecticut.

This is a contest of skill. Chance is not used to determine the winner, and sweepstakes odds do not apply.

1. Who runs it, where and when

  1. Sponsor. X Treasure Hunt LLC (“the Sponsor”), 1801 Ocean St, Marshfield, MA 02050. Questions: info@xtreasurehunt.com. The Sponsor alone runs this contest; no faire, venue or platform sponsors or administers it.
  2. Contest name. The Top Score of the Day.
  3. Event. Connecticut Renaissance Faire, Lebanon, Connecticut, on the days the faire is open while X Treasure Hunt runs quests there (“play days”).
  4. Dates. From Saturday, October 3, 2026 to Sunday, October 25, 2026. Play days: Every Saturday and Sunday from October 3 to October 25, 2026, plus Monday, October 12.
  5. Hours. From the faire’s 10:30 AM gate opening until scoring closes at 5:50 PM Eastern Time each play day. Scoring for each play day closes at the time shown in the game on that day; anything finished after it does not score (it still counts in the game as usual).
  6. Time zone. All times are Eastern Time (America/New_York), as kept by the game’s server — never a phone’s clock.

2. Who can take part, and how

  1. Eligibility. Anyone playing X Treasure Hunt at the faire on a play day with an X Treasure Hunt account. The Sponsor’s owners, staff and contractors, their households, and test accounts cannot win.
  2. Age. Players of any age may take part. Participants under 18 may participate only with permission of a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these rules on their behalf.
  3. Parents and guardians. The parent or guardian of a player under 18 accepts these rules, confirms eligibility, claims any prize, signs any release and gives any information the law requires. No child’s real name or photograph is ever required to win or published.
  4. Entry cost. Competing needs an Advanced Quest for this faire, which is sold as a treasure-hunt game in its own right — $15 for one Advanced Quest, or $25 for both (plus faire admission, sold separately by the faire). Nothing else is sold for this contest, and nothing can be bought that adds points.
  5. Attempts. One score per player per play day. Each Advanced Quest can be finished once per player at this faire, and each Easter-egg puzzle solved once per player at this faire. The season counts one play day (your best), so playing more days or buying more quests can never raise anyone’s highest possible season score.

3. How the winner is decided

  1. Scoring. Your first Advanced Quest finished on a play day is worth 100 points (further Advanced Quests the same day add no points). After your first Advanced Quest at the faire, the Easter-egg puzzles open: each egg appears as a marker on the game’s map of the faire — tap it to open its puzzle and solve it for 50 points. Eggs score only when solved during that play day’s hours. Nothing else scores — not the Beginner Quest, the games at home, the booth check-ins, or anything bought.
  2. Hints. Hints never add points. Where an Easter-egg puzzle offers hints, the number of hint steps you reveal on the eggs you solve that day is counted, and fewer hints wins a tie (below); some puzzles offer no hints at all. A puzzle solved after its full walkthrough was shown scores no points.
  3. Completion standards. A quest counts only when the game’s own server verifies its final answer; an egg counts only when the server verifies its answer. Finishes the game flags under its fair-play checks do not score.
  4. The winner is decided by skill. The eligible player with the most points on a play day wins that day. Chance is never used — no random draw, coin flip or random selection of any kind.
  5. Ties. A tie on points goes to (1) the fewest hint steps used on that day’s Easter-egg puzzles, then (2) the fastest elapsed solving time — the time, by the server’s clock, from the moment you first open each egg puzzle you solved that day (by tapping its marker) to solving it, added together (not the time of day you finished, and not when you arrived). If players are still tied, they are given the same skill-based tie-break puzzle at our booth, and the first correct solver wins.
  6. Times on the board. While a play day is open, the in-game board shows each player’s rank and points only. You can always see your own times (when you opened and solved each egg puzzle, the elapsed time and the hints used). Everyone’s times are shown on that day’s board after scoring for the day closes.
  7. Season prize. At the end of the faire’s run, the player whose single best play-day score is highest wins the season prize, with ties decided the same way.
  8. Collaboration. The players on one account (for example, a family playing on one phone) may solve together. Sharing puzzle answers with other players or crews, receiving or using someone else’s answers or solutions, submitting another player’s work, colluding, sharing accounts, or getting around a puzzle station is not allowed.
  9. Cheating and tampering. Tampering with the game, a QR code, a puzzle station or another player’s play, using more than one account to compete, or any attempt to get points without solving is not allowed.
  10. Technical problems. If a technical failure affects scoring (for example, the game is unavailable, or a correct answer did not save), tell us at our booth or by email before the day’s winner is confirmed; the Sponsor decides fairly from the game server’s own records, and every correction is recorded. The Sponsor is not responsible for phones, networks or signal at the faire.
  11. Disqualification. The Sponsor may disqualify a player, or remove points, for breaking these rules or the game’s fair-play checks, and may check a potential winner’s play (for example, with a question only a solver would know) before awarding a prize. Every disqualification and correction is recorded.

4. The prizes

  1. Daily prize. A cipher wheel pendant. Approximate retail value: $25. Number of prizes: one per play day.
  2. Season prize. The Champion’s Treasure Chest — a chest of faire goodies and a Season Key (free Advanced Quests for the winner’s crew next season). Approximate retail value: $100. Number of prizes: one.
  3. Fixed and sponsor-funded. Every prize is fixed in advance and paid for by the Sponsor. No part of any purchase goes into a prize pool, and no prize grows or shrinks with the number of players. No cash alternative.
  4. Winner verification and notification. After scoring closes, the Sponsor reviews the day’s standings and confirms the winner; the winner is notified by email at the account’s address and in the game.
  5. Claiming. A prize must be claimed within 30 days of notification, in person at our booth or as arranged with the Sponsor.
  6. Minor winners. If a potential winner is a minor, the prize will be awarded to or accepted by the minor’s parent or legal guardian on the minor’s behalf, subject to winner verification. Prizes are always handed to an adult.
  7. Unclaimed prizes. A prize not claimed in time, or a winner who cannot be verified, forfeits the prize; the Sponsor may then award it to the next-ranked eligible player under the same rules.
  8. Taxes. Any taxes on a prize are the winner’s (or the parent or guardian’s) responsibility.
  9. Winners list. Winners are shown in the game by their in-game display name (first name and last initial when it looks like a real name) — never a child’s full name or photograph. For a list of winners, email info@xtreasurehunt.com.

5. General

  1. Privacy. The contest uses only what the game already records to score and to contact a winner, as described in our Privacy Policy, including how we handle information about children under 13 (COPPA).
  2. Governing law and disputes. These rules are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, where the Sponsor is based. Nothing in these rules limits any right you have under the consumer-protection laws of the place you live that cannot be waived. Void where prohibited by law.
